When it comes to power deals, sports marketing springs to mind based solely on sheer numbers. Licensing rights. Luxury boxes. Sponsorships and endorsements. Stadium naming rights. NYAMA had the pleasure and honor of hosting a sports marketing A-Lister, Lou Imbriano, former CMO of the New England Patriots this morning at our headquarters. Lou is currently the President and CEO of TrinityOne, a marketing strategy and business advisory consultant firm, and has authored Winning the Customer: Turn Consumers Into Fans and Get Them to Spend More.
Imbriano grew up poor in an East Boston tenement, where he met his first master marketer - Marty, who owned the corner store where the family shopped for groceries. Marty knew everyone in the neighborhood; every transaction had a personal touch. Imbriano says, "success is not about your net worth - it's about your network." Being a relationship architect will build your business, turning mere customers into personal fans.
A shocking fact - the man who brokered the naming rights of Gillette Stadium, the 325 million dollar sports and entertainment facility, has never taken a marketing class. Imbriano describes marketing as "nothing earth shattering," and credits his success with nurturing relationships. His "D.E.L.I.V.E.R.S" system (each letter represents a tenet in his marketing philosophy - for the full system, get the book here!) offers steps and methods for marketers and salespeople to architect their business relationships for success.
Lou's presentation was energetic, informative, lively, and entertaining - at several points, the whole room was laughing. Each attendee was engaged, and every copy of Winning the Customer was sold! After his presentation, he fielded questions from the audience, and even stayed late to speak personally with event attendees, pose for photos, and sign autographs.
